Our Little Reader

For some time now Tyler has been enamored with the written word (or rather the printed picture). Over time his affection for books has grown and become part of our daily routine. He can sit for up to half an hour "reading" his books or having us read to him. For a while he stuck to his old favorites but recently has started to branch out in his selections. It's fun to see him discover and read some of the same books that I did growing up. To add a little variety we started going to the public library and letting him pick out his own books (board books only!).
Now reading books has also become part of our bedtime routine. We had tried to do this in the past but Tyler never seemed interested in books, just bed. One night he dragged out his Cuddle Book to read and now we have to limit him to only two books a night! Even after the lights are out he'll plead with me, "Boof? Boof??" He's very explicit about his selections too, making sure to request his book of choice by name. He refers to a book based on its subject so the titles we hear repeatedly are Cake, Pooh, Whale, Ball, Bear, Nicky, and Kitty. He seems to request a certain book over and over for a couple weeks before he tires of it and switches to a new book.
Here's a video of Tyler reading Corduroy (aka Bear), which is a book from my childhood. Towards the end he gets to the page where all the toys are sleeping and he puts his finger to his lips and says shhhh. Pretty cute if I do say so myself...

Girlfriends

Last week we had two playdates with four beautiful little ladies. Tyler is certainly a lucky boy!!

On Monday we met up with Anna, Elise and baby Kate. We had fun playing and enjoyed a picnic lunch.
Later in the week we played with a new friend, Maya, who Ty met in music and gym class.

Turtles and Hats

This week we ventured back to the Children's Museum and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Tyler can do something in almost every room of the 4 story building. For a while we could only spend time in the area designated for the smaller tykes but now Tyler's honing his motor skills and broadening his horizons. One of his favorite exhibits was the turtles. He was fascinated by the two turtles and watched them swim around for a long time. He also had fun trying on the hats of different professions such as fireman, explorer and police chief. The morning just flew by and we both had a great time!

P.S. Look at the last two pictures and check out the face he makes now when he knows I'm taking his picture. Ha!

Tumbling Tot

This fall season we decided to sit music class out and opted for a class that allowed Tyler to be more active. Last week was Tyler's first gym class and it was officially a hit! He's one of three tots in the class and he hit it off with both of them right away. The gym is broken up into different areas that focus on separate large motor skills. There are tunnels, a balance beam, bars, rings, a climbing obstacle course, and a huge foam pit. Tyler's absolute favorite was the trampoline but he also liked sliding into the foam pit (even though mama had to climb in too to help him out). He was basically in hog heaven for 45 minutes straight! He worked up a real appetite and had double helpings on everything at lunch. We're looking forward to this class to keep us both active during the long winter months ahead.

On the Mend

Sorry for the lack of posts as of late but this past Tuesday I had my wisdom teeth out. Nana and Papa came over to watch the little man and Jim took some time off too so I could relax and recuperate. Besides my surgery we've just been laying low waiting for our fall schedule to kick off. Fall, the season, is definitely starting to poke around our neck of the woods. The mornings are getting cooler and cooler and the past several days we've had a high in the 60s. The bright side is we're able to turn off the AC, crack open the windows and enjoy the fresh air. The leaves will be turning before we know it!
