Big Boo-Boo
Yesterday Tyler had his first big boo boo. We were coming down a slide and his feet got caught underneath him. When he wouldn't put weight on his foot I took him to urgent care and he got his leg x-rayed. His x-ray turned out clean which means he most likely just sprained his ankle and will be up and around in a few days. They went ahead and put a full leg splint on in case there was a fracture that didn't show up on the x-ray. He's already trying to crawl and put weight on the leg so we're hopeful that's not the case. If he continues to try and put weight on his left foot then the doctor said we could remove the splint tonight. Despite his ordeal, Tyler's in great spirits and doesn't appear to be in any pain. His main woe is frustration at being immobile which is totally understandable. He was such a trooper all day yesterday and we're so proud of our tough little guy.

Red Balloon
Yesterday we met our friends Christa and Anna at a children's book store called the Red Balloon where they have a toddler story time each Tuesday. The storyteller sang songs and read stories with puppets and props. Tyler and Anna were transfixed! At the end of the hour each child gets a red balloon to take home with them. The balloon provided Tyler with entertainment for the ride home and well into the afternoon. Thanks for a fun morning guys!

Social Butterfly or Misfit??
Or maybe a little bit of both. Tyler is becoming more and more social each day which is a fun development to watch. However, with increased socializing comes learning and knowing social rules and we're just not there yet. At this age children tend to view other playmates as mere objects rather than actual people so I know he'll get better with time. To illustrate his split personality here are two stories from this week. At music we all sit in a circle and generally the kids start out on the laps of a parent. This week Tyler launched himself up from my lap and preceded to go around to every parent and say "hi" while waving. He would then gently pat their child's hair before moving onto the next parent. Then for the whole first song he stood in the dead center of the circle and did all the movements. Ha! It was quite a sight to behold but I was proud of him for being so gentle with the kids. Fast forward to later that exact same day when our friend William was over to play. Tyler ignored him for the entire two hours except when William had a toy that Tyler wanted right then! Once he even grabbed a book and sat down to read it right on top of little William. I actually had to use the phrase, "William is our friend, not a chair". Seriously??
Here are some pictures of Tyler's tried and true friends. It's good to know they're all in it together, whether they know it or not!!

New Accomplishments
For the past several weeks I've been working with Tyler on how to hold and use a spoon. I would let him hold the spoon and guide his hand while I scooped cereal in his mouth. We finally purchased a bowl with a suction base so this week I've let him have free reign and try this new trick out himself. While he still needs help getting the majority of the food in his mouth, he's definitely showing some improvement. Although, at times he still opts to abandon the spoon in favor of his fingers!

First Haircut
Day at the Zoo
This Friday my friend Katie invited us to go to the zoo with her and her son Ben. We specifically went to see the Farm Babies exhibit. The day was gorgeous, in the 50s and we all had the best time. We rode on a wagon pulled by a tractor up to the farm. From there we hit all the red barns and saw baby goats, sheep, cows, pigs and chicks. Tyler's favorite were the sheep but he also loved letting the goats lick his hands. The many tractor's were a huge hit with Ben who even got to sit on one and steer! Thanks for the wonderful day Katie!
