In order to make our blog more family centered and to accommodate all the changes in our lives I decided to create a new blog. Therefore, this will be the last post on the Tyler James Buffo blog. This link will be kept so we can re-visit any of these posts but our new address will be:
Thanks for reading this blog and for keeping up with the adventures of Tyler. There's plenty more to come so click on the link and follow us to our new chapter!
Okay, so he forgets the K and stops in the middle to say, "cheese!" but still a darn good performance, if I do say so myself. (And I do cause I'm his mama!)
Last week we realized winter was here when we woke up to this Even though it had mostly melted by the afternoon, we donned our new snow boots and braved the outdoors. It's going to be a long winter...
On Sunday October 26th at 4:30 in the morning my neighbor, Meg, gave birth to their third child, Samuel Robert. I was lucky enough to be her co-birth coach (along with her husband, Joe) so I was there to witness his wonderful arrival into this world. It all started late Saturday night with a phone call from Meg that she'd been having some contractions and she'd keep me posted. By 1:30 they were 5 minutes apart so I headed over. Less than an hour later they were 3 minutes apart and we were headed to the hospital where we discovered she was dilated to 6 cm already! She was so great, laboring close to another hour before calling for medication. When the nurse was doing a final check before calling the anesthesiologist Meg's water broke, she was at a ten and ready to push! After 3 or 4 contractions Samuel Robert was born, 8 lbs 11 oz and 20 inches long. Meg did such an amazing job. I was so proud of her and happy to finally meet baby Samuel. We love you baby boy!!
On Halloween night Tyler got dressed one last time as Pooh bear to go trick or treating with his friends and dada. All the kids had fun showing off their costumes and chasing each other around in the front yard. Once the sun set they were off to the neighbors collecting candy. Tyler made it to only a few doors before returning home to help me hand out candy. When our door bell rang he would grab his pumpkin and, while I was handing out candy to the kids, take candy out of our bowl and put it in his pumpkin. Ha! For the entire night he went around saying, "Treat...treat...treat".
This week we met friends Anna and Elise at the Children's Museum for their Halloween Party. Here are some pictures of the trio posing as Cinderella (Anna), Elmo (Elise) and Pooh.
Later that same day Tyler shed his Pooh costume and we headed over to see our friends Dave, Sarah, Elise and Kate. Along with Steve, Christa and Anna we were invited over for dinner and an afternoon of play. On the way over Tyler was so excited and kept saying "Baby Kate, Baby Kate". We had a great time catching up and laughing at our precious children as they kept us all entertained. The best part of the night came when all three were in their PJs and getting ready for bed. They discovered Elise's bed and instantly transformed it onto their own trampoline. By the end of the night they were all three sweaty and exhausted from all the laughter. What a wonderful thing it is to share these moments with friends!
For Halloween this year Tyler decided he wanted to be Winnie the Pooh. His books have become a favorite and as soon as he saw the costume in the store he shouted, "Pooh!", so Pooh it was. This past Saturday morning he was invited to a costume birthday party in our neighborhood. Here are some fun pics from the party.
As you've probably noticed I've been a little lax in posting on the blog lately. Several factors have led to this, one being I've been feeling a little under the weather lately. Hopefully that will pass soon. So, this post is about a wedding Jim and I went to two weekends ago. It was his cousin Jenny's wedding and we had so much fun. Tyler stayed the afternoon and evening with our neighbors so Jim and I were able to have a night out. We had a blast spending time and catching up with his family. Congratulations Johnny and Jenny!
This past Sunday Jim and I decided to take Tyler to his first apple orchard. The weather wasn't great, cold and misty, but we thought all the activities would make it worthwhile. Unfortunately, when we got there we discovered that the orchard, corn maze, and hay rides were closed that day. Boo!! So, we made do with what was available and came home with some yummy apple treats; apple donuts, apple cider, apples and caramel apples. Although it wasn't what we expected we still had fun together and now we have a reason to go again this fall.
This past weekend we attended our neighbor Lauren's 3rd birthday party. The hit of the party for the kids was the huge bounce house. Since Tyler's been such a champ on the trampoline in gym class we threw him in to see if he'd like it...and he did! He was pretty good at running across it but much better at jumping and falling down. Thanks for having us over Lauren!
Last Sunday we gathered at the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate Nana's 61st birthday. It was great to see everyone and catch up and the food was so yummy. Tyler had fun naming everyone at the table and trying everyone's cheesecake. Happy Birthday Nana. We love you!
For some time now Tyler has been enamored with the written word (or rather the printed picture). Over time his affection for books has grown and become part of our daily routine. He can sit for up to half an hour "reading" his books or having us read to him. For a while he stuck to his old favorites but recently has started to branch out in his selections. It's fun to see him discover and read some of the same books that I did growing up. To add a little variety we started going to the public library and letting him pick out his own books (board books only!). Now reading books has also become part of our bedtime routine. We had tried to do this in the past but Tyler never seemed interested in books, just bed. One night he dragged out his Cuddle Book to read and now we have to limit him to only two books a night! Even after the lights are out he'll plead with me, "Boof? Boof??" He's very explicit about his selections too, making sure to request his book of choice by name. He refers to a book based on its subject so the titles we hear repeatedly are Cake, Pooh, Whale, Ball, Bear, Nicky, and Kitty. He seems to request a certain book over and over for a couple weeks before he tires of it and switches to a new book. Here's a video of Tyler reading Corduroy (aka Bear), which is a book from my childhood. Towards the end he gets to the page where all the toys are sleeping and he puts his finger to his lips and says shhhh. Pretty cute if I do say so myself...
This week we ventured back to the Children's Museum and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Tyler can do something in almost every room of the 4 story building. For a while we could only spend time in the area designated for the smaller tykes but now Tyler's honing his motor skills and broadening his horizons. One of his favorite exhibits was the turtles. He was fascinated by the two turtles and watched them swim around for a long time. He also had fun trying on the hats of different professions such as fireman, explorer and police chief. The morning just flew by and we both had a great time!
P.S. Look at the last two pictures and check out the face he makes now when he knows I'm taking his picture. Ha!
