Our Little Reader

For some time now Tyler has been enamored with the written word (or rather the printed picture). Over time his affection for books has grown and become part of our daily routine. He can sit for up to half an hour "reading" his books or having us read to him. For a while he stuck to his old favorites but recently has started to branch out in his selections. It's fun to see him discover and read some of the same books that I did growing up. To add a little variety we started going to the public library and letting him pick out his own books (board books only!).
Now reading books has also become part of our bedtime routine. We had tried to do this in the past but Tyler never seemed interested in books, just bed. One night he dragged out his Cuddle Book to read and now we have to limit him to only two books a night! Even after the lights are out he'll plead with me, "Boof? Boof??" He's very explicit about his selections too, making sure to request his book of choice by name. He refers to a book based on its subject so the titles we hear repeatedly are Cake, Pooh, Whale, Ball, Bear, Nicky, and Kitty. He seems to request a certain book over and over for a couple weeks before he tires of it and switches to a new book.
Here's a video of Tyler reading Corduroy (aka Bear), which is a book from my childhood. Towards the end he gets to the page where all the toys are sleeping and he puts his finger to his lips and says shhhh. Pretty cute if I do say so myself...
